Some of you might be wondering how the chocolate shell forms on a soft-serve ice-cream cone…That is not what this blog is about. BUT if you do want to know what I do day to day at the Overflow guesthouse in Cambodia- this blog is for YOU. 🙂

I start and end the day in the Lily room, a dorm room with 4 bunkbeds and AC. I was sharing the other beds with the Kingdom Journey’s team that has been here, but they’ve moved out.

The Lily room is on the far end of this hallway on the 2nd floor.

This is the roof that I spend a lot of time on praying over the people here at Overflow, our team, supporters, family and friends. The breeze is great most days. We also have team devotionals on the roof and other meetings that need a lot of space.

Down the four flights of stairs from the roof is the main dining area and pool.

Yes, it does look nice, and it is. This place is intended for guests to rest and relax well. That is definitely a benefit of working here.

My role at the guesthouse is “guest relations”, so talking with people and making sure they’re taken care of, something I love to do. So, I’ve found that I really like my job of learning what it looks like to work/run a guesthouse with Adventures in Missions. The goal is to take what we’ve learned here and apply it to what we will start in Nepal.

I get to hangout with the Cambodian staff and show them the Father’s heart, which transcends language barriers. Smiles and kindness go a long way! We also have a few people on the long term Cambodia team who already know some Khmer language. Eventually all the long term base team will know Khmer and be able to pour into the staff in their heart language. Same with the Nepal base- before we even start the base we will have 6 months of culture and language learning under our belts.

Breakfast is always great! Mine looks like the one on the left, but with pineapple too. The vibrant pink fruit is called dragon fruit, it’s yummy. 🙂

The nitty gritty of what I do is looking at spreadsheets with guest information and making sure that guests are taken care of. Sometimes it’s chaotic with guests checking in and out, the laundry guy coming, Indian food coming in, the phone ringing, tuk tuk drivers hanging out…lots of things can be happening at once, or nothing, and typically it’s one or the other. My goal of staying connected with the Father and being His heart to people is tested each day and I like the fire of it.

I’ve gotten to see a glimpse of what stepping into my calling looks like of shepherding people- listening, caring for, and sharing the Father’s heart with the one in front of me.

We also have fun game nights! 🙂
